Wishing you all a healthy,
peaceful and joyful 2021
Ring in the New Year with firecrackers,
confetti, champagne and happy New Year wishes!
The New Year brings with it a fresh start, new
opportunities and an exhilarating sense of
rejuvenation.
We often make New Year’s resolutions in an
attempt to improve ourselves and to be better
towards others. As we celebrate the New Year,
the Yee Fung Toy Society of Vancouver Board
members wish everyone success, a healthy long
life and a fresh new start. Happy New Year!
On the Saturday of May 15th, 2021, YFT Vancouver
held its 2nd scholarship awarding ceremony
online via Skype. This year, a total of 16
recipients were awarded merit scholarships, 4
elementary school students, 3 secondary school
students, and 9 university students. On top of
these awards, the society also awarded 3 essay
prizes for the best essay submission.
13 of the recipients attended the conference
call together with their parents and YFT
committee members. The ceremony went very well,
as we managed to cover a quick introduction of
YFT society in Canada and talk about where the
source of scholarship funds is coming from by
acknowledging the sponsors. Before recognizing
the individual scholarship recipients in their
respective categories, all students are given
the chance to introduce themselves to everyone.
During the call, we have Clara Yee, the sponsor
for Joseph Yee's memorial Prize to share with
our students her inspiration for setting up this
memorial prize in memory of her late husband and
also share the new essay topics for next year.
There was a lot of back and forth communications
and cheers during the call! At the end of the
ceremony, the students and parents are provided
with the detail on how to collect their
scholarship certificates and awards.
Above are some of the photos taken during the
virtual award ceremony and when the students
claimed their scholarship certificates and
awards at the YFT society hall.
Lastly, I would like to thank the YFT
scholarship committee members and other YFT
board members for helping to prepare the award
certification and took the time to review and
select the winning essays. Without their help,
we would not be able to pull this 2nd online
ceremony this quickly. Great teamwork!
